Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (SWT) is a modality used for the treatment of a variety of musculoskeletal conditions,

primarily applied to chronic conditions, particularly those affecting medium to large sized tendons and their insertions on bone such as:

Plantar fasciitis.

Achilles tendonopathy.
Retrocalcaneal bursitis.
Lateral epicondylosis (tennis elbow).
Medial epicondylosis (golfer’s elbow).
Calcific tendonitis (supraspinatus tendon, etc.).
Patellar tendinosis (jumper’s knee).
Morton’s neuroma.
Chronic stress/non-union fractures.

What Are the Benefits of ESWT Treatment?
There are many benefits of ESWT Treatment for pain. Because Shockwave Therapy is nonsurgical and noninvasive,
patients undergoing treatments do not have to suffer the groggy side effects of anesthesia or worry about infection
or scarring. The treatments are also cost effective because there’s no lengthy recovery time or hospital stays.
Depending on the treatable conditions, studies show that ESWT Shockwave treatments deliver a 91 percent
success rate, and more than 80 percent of patients report satisfaction with a faster and easier healing process.
Faster,
easier healing
Non-invasive
No anesthesia required
No risk of infection
No downtime
No scarring
Cost effective

How radial ESWT works

Compressed air accelerates a projectile up to 80 to 90 kph within a guiding tube that strikes a metal applicator placed

on the patient's skin. The kinetic energy is converted into a radial shock wave. The projectile generates stress

waves in the applicator that transmit pressure waves into tissue to a depth of 4 to 5 cm.

The evolving list of diagnoses for which ESWT shows potential includes:

Shoulder tendinopathy
Lateral epicondylosis*/epicondylitis
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome
Hamstring tendinopathy
Patellar tendinopathy
Medial tibial stress syndrome
Achilles tendinopathy
Plantar fasciitis*
Knee osteoarthritis
Fracture nonunion
Spasticity of spinal and supraspinal origin (stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy)
